H&M is a popular retailer that specializes in quick fashion garments. Erling Persson established the company in 1947 with a single store in Sweden named Hennes, which means "hers" in English. This store exclusively offered women's clothing. As the company expanded, Persson opened additional stores in Norway. By acquiring a company that sold hunting gear for men, Persson introduced men's clothing to his stores and rebranded the company as Hennes & Mauritz, eventually shortened to H&M. Throughout its history, H&M has partnered with renowned individuals. In 2004, the brand collaborated with Karl Lagerfeld, followed by a collaboration with Stella McCartney in 2005. The subsequent year witnessed exclusive lines introduced by Viktor & Rolf and Madonna. Currently, H&M unveils a new collaboration annually, with most collections quickly selling out both online and in physical stores. Presently, H&M boasts over 5,000 stores in 74 countries worldwide. The company, now operated by Stefan Persson, the founder's son, generates annual sales surpassing $25 billion. Today, H&M offers clothing for men, women, teenagers, and children.
